SOLAR PANEL EXEMPTION
In 2025, many property owners saw an increase in value attributed to solar panels. At town Meeting on March 10, 2026, an article on the warrant was passed by the voters to exempt solar systems per RSA 72:62. However, this exemption is not an automatic exemption and MUST be applied for by the property owner no later than April 15, 2026, in order to exempt the system.
Some property owners have not yet seen those systems added to their property record card. We are in the process of picking up all those systems so even if you didn’t have a value in 2025 that does not mean you will not see a value added going forward.
We are encouraging anyone who has solar systems installed on their property to please reach out as soon as possible to apply for the exemption as the deadline is quickly approaching. Even if you do not have a value added for the system yet, having the application in place will exempt it when it is added to the property.
Failure to apply for the exemption will mean the system will have a value added and could significantly increase your property’s value. We are trying to be proactive in letting people know the exemption is available and must be applied for.
We have tried to reach all affected property owners to inform them of the fast-approaching deadline, however, as not all the systems were previously added to the property record cards, we may not have all of the contact information.
You can pick up the applications at the Assessing/Planning/Zoning Office during regular business hours. Please feel free to pass this along and reach out with any questions to Michelle Lutz at 603-466-9435.
